Recipe for Redeemer Communion Bread
Per Diane Davis Andrew: recipe
tweaked by Rev. Graham Pulkingham so it didn't crumble as much
Thanks Cherie Binns for resurrecting the recipe for our mutual enjoyment. Bake
it for your church!
● 1 cup "All Bran" or "Bran Buds" Cereal
● 3/4 cup shortening or butter
● 3/4 cup sugar
● 1 Tbsp of salt
Cover with 2 cups boiling water, mix, and let this cool to lukewarm
●
2 packages dry yeast
Mix yeast into 1/2 cup warm water (~ 85 F)
with a pinch of sugar to activate.
Let stand for about 10 minutes.
● 1 beaten egg
Add beaten egg and yeast fluid to cooled mixture and mix well.
● 6.5 - 7 cups of flour
Gradually add the flour until the dough is well mixed, and slightly
sticky to the touch.
Let rise till double, punch down, form into loaves or rolls & let rise until
double again.
Bake at 350 F until golden brown (20-30 minutes for rolls, 55-70 minutes for
loaves)
(Carol
Kennedy has also successfully adjusted it a bit, to include oat flour or whole
wheat, and less sugar)
